Rock Castle
Historical Rock Castle is locate in a beautiful city
called Hendersonville,Tennessee. It was the home
of Daniel Smith and his wife Sarah Smith. The two
of them had children who married into Donelson
family. Rachel Donelson was the wife of President
Andrew Jackson. Jackson helped a daughter of the
Smiths elope with one of the son of the Donelson's.
The Smiths owned a total of 3,140 acres of land. It
was Sarah who oversaw the construction of the
home. It was the first rock house ever built in
Miiddle Tennessee. Daniel Smith was away on
many trips due to the fact that he was a
Surveyor.Captain in the Revolutionary War. He
was a BrigadierGeneral of the Metro District,
Secretary of the United States Southwest of the
Ohio. He was a Chairman of a Tennessee
Consititutional Convention Committe. A United
States Senator and a Indian Treaty Negotiator
During ths time there were Indians in Tennessee.
There where many who died at the hands of the
Indians, and many Indians at the hands of the
white man. All that is left of Rock Castle is the
home with 18 acres of land. The Family Cemetery,
and a Slave Cemetery located behind the homes of
Hendersonville residents that are on the Lake of
Old Hickory. The rest is dust in the wind. The
Home was built in the year 1784.
